Chris Huhne
Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh
Parliamentary Expenses
Mps shoud spend taxpayers’ money carefully, which is why Chris Huhne has claimed less in MPs’ expenses than any other Member of Parliament in Hampshire during this last parliament. Indeed, Chris ranked 580th out of 620 non-London MPs last year in his personal claims. Chris was also one of the first MPs to publish his expenses in detail on his own website before required to do so.
Not a single Liberal Democrat MP has “flipped” by claiming for one home in their constituency and then another in London and then back again to maximize their claims, unlike many Tory and Labour MPs such as Tory shadow chancellor George Osborne. The Lib Dem MPs have consistently claimed less than their Labour or Tory counterparts.
Last year, Chris Huhne claimed less than a fifth of the maximum personal allowance and just a fifth of David Cameron’s total. Some of Chris’s opponents here in Eastleigh say they will not claim for a second home in London – even though votes often keep MPs as late at 11pm and beyond – but no-one has yet made a firm promise to spend less than Chris.
