Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has led successful campaigns to defend Eastleigh’s interests. As an MEP, Chris ensured that the EU Commission investigated unfair Italian government subsidies to Pirelli to move jobs to Southern Italy from Eastleigh. As MP since 2005, Chris has taken on more than 13,000 cases – big and small- for constituents.

Chris says: “If a constituent cares about an issue, then that issue matters to me. It’s the least I can do to help people get a fair deal from the bureaucracy”. As a result, everyone knows someone who has been helped by Chris to get VAT rebates, tax credit recalculations, fair changes in Child Support, passport renewals to get back into the country and a place on the housing list for local young people.

As a local MP with a national voice, Chris has been able to get quick action for local residents on hundreds of issues and has succeeded in campaigns to resurface Eastleigh roads like Twyford Road, to get medication for constituents affected by asbestos, to stop county council cuts in social care services, to halt ministers from levying a boat tax on leisure sailors, and to get rates rebates and power repairs for local businesses.

Chris has also provided unstinting support to local charities, notably the Mayor’s appeal where he has run each year in the Eastleigh 10 kilometre road race to raise money. (His time is nothing to write home about, but that’s not the point!). He has supported many local charities doing key work for the needy like Homestart and Age Concern.
