Chris Huhne, Member of Parliament for Eastleigh

Ministers must be more cautious when drafting new offences

4.21.01pm GMT Wed 13th Feb 2008

Commenting on the successful appeal by five young Muslim men who had been convicted of possessing extremist literature, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"This is another example of how the Government's knee-jerk drafting of new terrorist offences can lead to confusion from prosecutors and the waste of taxpayers' money.

"Ministers need to be more cautious when drafting new offences and more effective in enforcing old ones."
