Huhne presses Transport Minister on M27 and M3 noise

8.00.00am GMT Tue 26th Feb 2008

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has pressed Transport ministers to act quickly on low noise surfaces for the M3 and M27 sections that pass near Eastleigh, West End and Hedge End.

Mr Huhne has long championed low noise resurfacing for the busy stretches of local motorway, and said that the widening of the M27 between Chilworth and Nursling showed that the Transport department could not plead poverty.

"Low noise surfaces would make a dramatic difference to the quality of life of many of my constituents on the Nightingale Estate and Boyatt Wood in Eastleigh, and in the West End, Hedge End and Bursledon areas around the M27 such as Barbe Baker Avenue, Netley Firs Road and Dodwell Lane.

"Now the Department has the cash for road improvements in the area, it should urgently reconsider the case for going ahead with low noise tarmac and I have written to Tom Harris, the junior minister responsible, to press the case" said Mr Huhne.
