Care homes report shows government failing on illegal immigration

12.00.00pm GMT Sun 30th Mar 2008

Commenting on reports that hundreds of illegal immigrants have been found working in British care homes, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"The Government has been far too lax in prosecuting businesses who have been found to employ illegal immigrants.

"The key to stopping this sort of shocking abuse of the system is properly implementing the law which we have and bringing rogue bosses to book.

"In such a sensitive sector, businesses have a particular duty only to employ trained and responsible carers. Care homes found to be in breach of their legal requirements should have their licences reviewed."
