Court battle on highly-skilled migrants waste of taxpayers' money

12.00.00am GMT Thu 17th Apr 2008

Commenting on today's Government decision not to appeal against a High Court judgment which ruled that thousands of highly-skilled migrants previously threatened with deportation could stay in Britain, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"The Government has finally realised that it should not be moving the goal posts mid-game.

"People who had uprooted their lives to come here on the basis of one set of immigrations rules should not find them changed upon arrival.

"Forcing the migrants to bring this case to court in the first place was both morally wrong and a waste of court time and taxpayers' money."
