Political posturing won't end gun crime scourge - Huhne

12.00.00am GMT Sun 22nd Jun 2008

Commenting on today's (Monday) report on gun crime by the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies at King's College, London, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"No amount of posturing on penalties by Labour or the Conservatives is going to end the scourge of gun crime.

"Increasingly it is the likelihood of being caught, rather than the severity of the sentence, which will persuade young people not to carry guns.

"There must be an urgent shift towards evidence-based policy making in criminal justice to move away from what sounds tough to what actually works."
