Culture change on data needs firm lead from the top

12.00.00am GMT Wed 25th Jun 2008

Commenting on today's report on Government data security, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"This report was commissioned more than six months ago, yet in the last fortnight alone a Cabinet minister lost a computer, and two sets of secret documents were left on trains.

"The Cabinet Secretary must ensure that anyone who is negligent in handling sensitive data is fired.

"There will be no culture change unless there is a clear understanding about the consequences of failing to respect citizens' privacy."
