Rape squad proposals make a lot of sense

3.57.12pm GMT Wed 9th Jul 2008

Commenting on ACPO's proposals for each police force to have a specialist squad to investigate rape allegations, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Affairs Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"These proposals make a lot of sense in an area where convictions have been very low and where there is a serious difficulty in persuading victims to come forward.

"Better police work would be well complemented by specialised prosecutors concentrated on building effective cases from an early stage."
