Disgraceful treatment of asylum seekers must end

Commenting on today's report which highlights claims that Home Office security teams abused asylum seekers, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

"This report highlights the disgraceful treatment of asylum seekers.

"Britain has a proud record of providing refuge for people fleeing persecution. The last thing they should expect is to be physically and mentally abused while here.

"Ministers must overhaul the inhumane asylum system, end this shameful state-sponsored violence and let asylum seekers work to support themselves."
