MILIBAND UNABLE TO DELIVER ENERGY REVOLUTION – HUHNE

Responding to reports that David Miliband will call for an ‘energy revolution’ in his speech today, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

“Given David Miliband’s failure to protect environmental budgets in the latest round of Whitehall infighting, there is a real doubt about whether he has the political clout to deliver any ‘energy revolution’.

“Changing the incentives for utility companies should be part of curbing demand. However, the Government has so far failed to deliver on energy saving and local electricity generation, while the commitment to new nuclear power will put heavy emphasis on a centralised grid.

“We need a strong commitment to a non-nuclear and non-fossil fuel future.”
