MILIBAND MUST MAKE GREEN TAX SWITCH – HUHNE

Responding to David Miliband’s comments toady in Mexico, in which he called for large-scale investment in new technologies to help reduce carbon emissions, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

“David Miliband’s call today would ring rather less hollow if the Government were taking effective action at home.

“Green taxes have fallen to their lowest level since Mrs Thatcher was Prime Minister and the Government is cutting budgets related to climate change for both flood defences and research.

“Until the Government starts practicing what it preaches, nobody should take its green credentials seriously.

“The Liberal Democrats are the only party with clear plans for fairer and greener, but not higher taxes to change our behaviour and safeguard the planet for our children.”
