TOUGHEN UP DOGS ACT TO STOP FEAR AND INTIMIDATION – HUHNE

Tuesday 9 March 2010

Commenting on the Government’s proposals for changes in the Dangerous Dogs Act,the Liberal Democrat shadow Home Secretary Chris Huhne said:

“The Dangerous Dogs Act needs to be toughened up. It is an ineffective law rushed through in haste and does not tackle the fear and intimidation that many people feel faced with aggressive dogs.

“We need micro-chipping of dogs to allow owners to be traced and held responsible, and the law should be tightened to cover all dangerous dogs including those on private property.

“The police and courts need the power to confiscate out-of-control dogs, regardless of breed, and stop irresponsible owners from ever having a dog again.”
