GORDON BROWN FAILS TO DELIVER AGAIN ON ENVIRONMENT – HUHNE
Gordon Brown has failed to keep the promise he made at Labour’s autumn conference to make an announcement on creating 100,000 new environmental jobs.
The Chancellor promised in his Labour party conference speech to reveal a package of job-creating environment measures this year.
In his speech, the Chancellor said:
“And because I believe the greatest expansion in new jobs can come from the environment, David Miliband, John Prescott and I will publish proposals this autumn showing how environmental care and job creation advance together: from energy saving, innovation and greentechnologies. At least 100,000 new jobs for British people.”
Commenting, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:
“Gordon Brown is turning into a big disappointment for anyone who cares about the environment. Following the damp squib of his pre-budget report, in which he failed to reverse course on green taxes, he is now failing to deliver on the most public promises.
“This is a sign that Gordon Brown is not only inheriting the Labour leadership but also some of its incumbent’s most alarming characteristics, such as a capacity to make announcements over and over again that never actually happen.
“Brown’s failure to follow through on promised plans for environmental growth is another blow to any reputation he has on green issues.”
