BROWN PREMIERSHIP WILL FAIL ON CLIMATE CHANGE – HUHNE

Responding to David Miliband’s warning that Labour will lose the next election unless it takes the environment more seriously, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

“David Miliband is right to highlight how unambitious the Government have been, starting with Gordon Brown’s Treasury.

“The failure to move further and faster on green taxes in the pre-budget report, combined with the refusal to give back new green revenues in tax cuts, shows that the Chancellor really does not understand the urgency or importance of tackling climate change.

“Gordon Brown is still not green. This does not bode well for a Brown premiership. Delivering on climate change requires joined-up thinking across government.

“Brown’s premiership looks unlikely to take the lead on tackling climate change which is so desperately needed.”
