Action on leaks needed to tackle water shortage

Responding to the Announcement by Thames Water that they have applied for a drought order, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

“Although the drought which has led to today’s decision has a lot do with climate change, if Thames Water spent more money on fixing leaks and less money on shareholder dividends, today’s application may not have been necessary. The regulator must get tougher with the water companies.

“We also urgently need to see an increase in metering, which alone would cut water use by 15%.”
