Government Migrant Workers Policy Has Become Slapdash – Huhne

Commenting on Jacqui Smith’s proposals to tighten rules governing migrant workers, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

“It always used to be a requirement on employers seeking to sponsor a non-EU skilled migrant that they should advertise for a British worker first.

“This announcement from Jacqui Smith merely shows how slapdash recent Government policy has become.

“Skilled migrants play a key role in our economy, and they make a positive contribution when they are complementing and not substituting British workers.”
