Eastleigh MP Kicks Off American Football Game

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne, pictured here, was a guest of the Southampton Stags – the American football team – as they played Surrey Stingers at the Eastleigh Wide Lane ground.

Chris threw the coin to decide options at the start of the match, with the Stags winning the toss. After a slow start, the Stags asserted their dominance winning 40 to 0.

Chris said: “I enjoyed watching the match even though for a football supporter like me, all the stopping and starting takes a bit of getting used to. It is great to have a good American Football team in the area as well as rugby and football teams.

“American football is a step closer to all-out physical war than rugby league, as you are allowed to push and tackle opponents even if they don’t have the ball. This is definitely not a game for the faint-hearted!”
