Huhne Challenges County To Publish Audit Report

Eastleigh MP Chris Huhne has challenged Hampshire County Council to publish the internal audit report that highlighted failures in checking agency workers caring for children and vulnerable adults.

In a rebuttal of Cllr Ken Thornber’s statement, which Mr Huhne described as “complacent”, the Eastleigh MP said that if Cllr Thornber believed that there was no risk to children or vulnerable adults, then he would have no difficulty in publishing the report.

Mr Huhne pointed out that the published version of the report available on the county website states clearly: “There is therefore a risk that inappropriate staff may be working within the establishments”.

In a letter to Cllr Thornber, Mr Huhne asks why the internal audit department of the county has raised this issue two years running, and has conducted an expensive survey of children’s and vulnerable adults’ establishments, if the system is as robust as Cllr Thornber says.
