Children At Risk Due To Lack Of County Checks – Huhne

Commenting on the news that Hampshire County Council has hired many agency workers to care for children and vulnerable adults despite a lack of adequate documentation to ensure that they are who they say they are, Liberal Democrat MP for Eastleigh Chris Huhne said:

“This is a shocking failure by the county to conduct the basic checks necessary to protect children and vulnerable adults, and it is even worse that this is the second year running that this scandal has been highlighted without officers or the Conservative administration tackling the problem.

“My information is that more than half of all the agency workers hired by the county to look after children do not have the proper documentation that proves who they are, and nearly a fifth do not even have clear photographs to identify the employee.

“Children’s safety must be the county’s top priority bar none” said Mr Huhne.
