Courts Force Government To Do The Right Thing On Secret Evidence – Huhne

Commenting on today’s High Court ruling against the Government making use of secret evidence to deny bail to suspects, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Chris Huhne said:

“As was the case with control orders, the courts have had to step in to force the Government to do the right thing.

“It is an affront to the fundamental principles of British justice to deny someone freedom without even telling them what they are suspected of.

“Instead of using secret evidence to infringe human rights, ministers should concentrate on making it easier to prosecute terrorists by allowing intercept evidence to be used in court.”
