THAMES WATER RESERVOIR PLAN IS ENVIRONMENTAL FOLLY – HUHNE

Commenting on Thames Water’s plans to build a £1bn reservoir in Oxfordshire to meet increased demand, Liberal Democrat Shadow Environment Secretary, Chris Huhne MP said:

“Thames Water would get a much more sympathetic hearing for its plans to build a new reservoir if it tackled the atrocious problems with its existing infrastructure, instead of wasting money on expensive advertising campaigns.

“Thames Water has missed its leakage targets for three successive years while announcing record profits and failing to ensure the security of water supply, which is its core purpose.

“The regulator must get tough with Thames Water to ensure a sharp improvement in its service and to ensure it promotes sustainable water use in the best interests of consumers and the environment.”
